The Latin American Bitcoin and Blockchain Conference (“LABITCONF”) in San Salvador, El Salvador, is the longest running conference of its kind in Latin America and possibly the world.
Each year, the event brings together many of the smartest minds in the Bitcoin industry, as well as local entrepreneurs, for the special Bitcoin event. People around the world come to learn, network and do business with regional and global leading players. This year, the event made a statement being in El Salvador, the only country in the world where bitcoin is currently legal tender.
The popularity of the conference continues to soar each year.
Rodolfo Adragnes, Founder of LABITCONF spoke to Ashton Addison, on the Crypto Coin Show. “It’s not a conference. It is a whole experience. When they come down it’s like a mix of sensations and art and sound and music and mood. Plus top tier speakers.”
Those speakers included Max Keiser, Casa’s Jameson Lopp, Stephan Livera, and Anita Posch. The nonprofit event, organized by Bitcoin Iberoamérica Foundation, was in its ninth year running. The conference aims to help individuals in Latin America improve their financial freedom and sovereignty through the benefits of Bitcoin.
LABITCONF has been a non-profit since 2013. They don’t compete with other conferences. Andragnes shares his sponsors, speakers and everything else to keep the vibe positive.
This year the hybrid Hackathon online and offline featured 700+ hackers, laying lines of code down to build projects for real applications in Latin America.
Adopting Bitcoin was another conference occurring in the same week which successfully interconnected with LABITCONF. With Bitcoin revolutionizing El Salvador, Latin America and the others in the crypto community are looking at what Adopting Bitcoin could mean for the future.
Already in El Salvador more people have bitcoin wallets, in the millions, than traditional bank accounts. Still adopting the new currency into the Latin American community is a work in progress.
LABITCONF heavily provided Spanish driven content for the local people with open mic Q and A sessions to make sure the community got the basics about how bitcoin is playing out in El Salvador,. With the host country officially using bitcoin for its economy, the locals can learn about setting up wallets, crypto mining, and using bitcoin as a universal income tool.
The community got to converse with local and international professionals about starting or expanding businesses. Locals could ask anything to make sure they understood the information why Bitcoin as Andragnes puts it “is beyond the law, the government, the politics, and remittances.”
The event aimed to “inspire a generation of leaders in Latin America’s burgeoning blockchain space.”
“We all fear what we don’t understand,” said Andragnes in the LABITCONF press release. “To overcome widespread fears of bitcoin and blockchain technology, we’re creating a space where anyone who wants to explore the future of bitcoin across Latin America can engage with bitcoin specialists and entrepreneurs, as well as local governments about what bitcoin could mean for the region.”
The conference did not shy away from the technical aspects of bitcoin and other crypto currencies. The road to privacy, application uses, NFTs and how to get blockchains to be legal tender in other countries; these types of discussions are a staple of the conference.
The fun atmosphere is what makes LABITCONF a huge success each year.
